Louis Yungling
I was born in Detroit, Michigan, and at age 8, I became my mother's first piano student. Shortly after, I began studying piano privately with Charlotte Moore Viculin at the Viculin Studio of Music in Plymouth, Michigan. It was with Charlotte that I won the Best in State of Michigan award for my grade level. I also attended the Interlochen Arts Academy Summer Music Camp and with Charlotte's wonderful guidance I was accepted into the Interlochen Arts Academy school.
As a piano student at Interlochen, I studied with renowned piano professor, Michael Coonrod. It was there that I discovered my passion for the music of Robert Schumann and my fascination with foreign languages. I graduated from Interlochen in 1989.
After Interlochen, I attended Arizona State University where I studied piano with such talented piano professors as Walter Cosand, Jan Meyer Thompson and Rayna Barroll-Aschaffenburg. Since college, I have had the good fortune of working with Paulo Carvalho, an amazing pianist, teacher and composer. I am honored to use Paulo's extraordinary piano method in my studio.
I currently continue my development with distinguished pianist, author, lecturer and pedagogue, Madeline Bruser.
In addition to piano, I have an interest in languages and have developed functional communication skills in Spanish, French and Portuguese. I also design web sites and enjoy light computer programming. This web site is one of the first sites I developed. You are viewing the 3rd revision.
Other projects I'm passionate about include: Founding and supporting New NY Crossroads, L.L.C, an organization that exists to promote world peace through education and diversity.
I also enjoyed five years of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to immigrants from places such as Africa, China, Albania, South America, The Caribbean and Russia.
