Buying a piano or keyboard

Pianos

I highly recommend Allegro Pianos in Connecticut. Allegro Pianos is owned by Ori and Rebecca Bukai. They have an awe inspiring showroom filled with a wide range of fine pianos. Ori is a master technician (and fine pianist, too) who will educate you and explain every aspect of what makes a fine piano. I love my Estonia Grand Piano and I thank Ori for opening my ears to this amazing work of art.

Keyboards

I recommend two keyboards that I have played and tested. Both meet my minimum requirements for use as a practice piano. See list of requirements below.

Name: Casio CDP100 - 88 Key Digital Piano
Cost: $399.00
Where: The Guitar Center, Atlantic Center Mall, Brooklyn.
NOTE: The keyboard would have to sit on a table top as it does not come with a stand (Please ask about available keyboard stands)

Name: Yamaha YPG625
Cost: $780.00.
Where: You can view it and buy it online here.
NOTE: It comes on a stand, with a bench, headphones and software

Requirements for buying an electric piano

  • 88 keys, as close to the same size as a regular piano
  • Weighted keys - a sensitive touch that imitates a regular piano
  • A sustain pedal, or capability for sustain pedal
  • An adjustable bench or chair
  • Headphones or capability for headphones
