It's that time of year again! Yungling Piano Studio piano athletes flex their piano muscles and know-how to earn their way up and down the Mountain of Scales. Students must try their hand at complex rhythms, scales, sight-reading and theory in order to get to the finish line and claim their certificate and prize. Winter Piano Recital, December 2009
Yungling Piano Studio students displayed their hard work in front of a generous audience of 65 guests at our Winter 2009 Recital. Clover's Fine Art Gallery and Cafe hosted our event and provided us an elegant art gallery setting with professional recital seating and a beautiful Petrof grand piano. In a few words: "Simply stunning afternoon of entertainment and accomplishment."
A proud group of hardworking piano students. Each one a shining star I'm so proud of!
Look at those smiles! Brave, creative, hardworking, music-loving angels! I made a point of telling our guests that I am lucky to get to work with these amazing students.
Adult Master Class, October 23, 2009
Here are photos from our first Master Class in the new studio in Brooklyn Heights. We had 7 students and 2 guests for an evening of fun, food, piano playing, presentations, laughter and drink!
Piano students enjoying some snacks before going to the Guillotine.....er....I mean before performing their music. Cristina obviously thinks this is funny.
Now you can see how intently they are listening. When the first person finishes playing, he or she gets to pick who goes next.
Hap shows us his score so we'll believe him when he says, "This is really difficult." Hap shared an Improvisation by Francis Poulenc and the much loved "Somewhere" from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.
"Now which one of these 88 keys is the one I need?" Sue played a delightful song by Janet Vogt called Waltz Lament.
Mike adjusts his favorite song before serenading us by moonlight....a la Beethoven. He shared his progress with Sonata Quasi una Fantasia (Moonlight Sonata 1st movement) by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Sue uses the most current technology to share with us some interesting information about Philip Glass. Students shared information about a composer/musician of their choice. Amongst them were Beethoven, Philip Glass, Bernstein, Alicia de Larrocha, Francis Poulenc and others.
Mike informs us that it is indeed VAN not VON Beethoven and shares some interesting information about the maestro.
Adult Master Class, April 5, 2009
Here are some photos from Yungling Piano Studio's regularly occurring Adult Master Classes. The adult students gather at the studio, share food and conversation and then perform for each other. Constructive comments and discoveries are made, and fun is had by all!

Lisa smiles after a successful and very fun sight reading demonstration before the entire class. Way to go Lisa! A brave and confident volunteer.
Fall Recital, Dec 11, 2008
The pictures are coming in from our Fall recital. It was a wet and wild night we won't soon forget. Everyone played so beautifully, and each student received a certificate of participation. Here is the first picture posted: A group photo.
Summer Piano Olympics 2008
Summer 2008 students had the chance to test their skills as piano athletes. Beginning students raced to complete their first lesson book of 48 songs. Each song had to be played note correct with accurate counting with musically performed dynamics. Students had 5 tries to complete each song. Different color stars represented the amount of tries needed to complete the song at the skill level required.
Older students had the choice of two challenges: Major and Minor scales or Rhythm cards. Each game presented 48 challenges.
Below are pictures of students who finished the entire game.
